Thinking of getting water baptised? Read on to find out more.

Water Baptism is a biblical practice that symbolises the beginning of a new Christian life. The person being baptised will be lowered underwater and brought back up to identify with the death and resurrection of Jesus and the washing away of sins.

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:3-4 NIV

Stories of Baptism

What to Expect

  • Generally, Citylife will do water baptisms after our 10am Sunday morning gathering. Why? So, our whole church family can celebrate with you. Depending on the people being baptised, we can either use a small inflatable pool at Citylife, go to a local indoor pool, or go to the beach, harbour, or lagoon nearby.

  • Water Baptism will begin with one of our pastors opening in prayer and introducing those being baptised.
You, along with any others being baptised, may also be asked to share your testimony of discovering God and believing in His Son, Jesus.

  • When it is your turn, you will enter the water with a friend or family member and will be asked two questions.

    1. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and was raised back to life? “Yes”

    2. Are you declaring today that Jesus is the Lord of your life? “Yes”

  • Time to be dunked (baptised!). The pastor conducting the baptism will say something like, “To the glory of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, I baptise you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” You will then be lowered under the water and brought back up again.

  • The baptism will then finish with the pastor praying for you. This will either be immediately after while you are still in the water or later when everyone has been baptised.
At Citylife, we also like to give you a certificate with the date of baptism commemorating the day.
