Everything you need to know about serving in the hospitality team.

Hospitality

The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, believers) say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take and drink the water of life without cost. ‘
Revelation 22:17

The essence of the gospel message is one of inclusion and welcome, by the grace of God. When we read about the life of Jesus, we see Him connecting with all people without favouritism or discrimination. He loved everybody and welcomed them into His presence. His genuine love for all people and the time He gave them was attractive and life changing.

Now that we are His church, we get to emanate the same message of welcome. Not only in the way we all live our lives but also in the way we gather. We do that by creating an environment of home and belonging in our Congregation and Celebration gatherings. The way we greet people, the way we look after our building and keep it clean and tidy, the way we open and use the kitchen for tea and coffee and meals. Even the way we make sure the bathrooms are clean and well stocked with toilet paper!

We aren’t aiming for perfection in our presentation, but we do want to do our best to create that sense of home and belonging. Citylife isn’t a religious organisation, it is a family to belong in.

Compulsory

Induction
A legal requirement we have as a Church is to run all new volunteers through an induction process. It sounds very formal but is actually really helpful and will give you a smooth entry into our volunteer family at Citylife.
Part of the induction process is making sure you have gone through the content on this page and on our Serve page. After that, you will be given a link to our Volunteer Induction page and catch up with Adrian to run through the information relevant to you.

WWCC
Although the hospitality team isn’t directly involved with kids ministry we want all our volunteers at Citylife to have an up-to-date WWCC. See below link to apply for yours and once you have been approved, send through the details to office@citylife129.com.

FAQ’s

  • Welcome – You will be stationed at the front door to welcome people as they arrive. You will also stay in the front foyer area for the first 10 minutes of the service to welcome anybody arriving late.

Kitchen – Prepare the front bench with tea, coffee and any other edibles for before and after the service. You will also be responsible for cleaning up afterwards too.

Seating – This is mainly for our Celebration services where you will help people find a place to sit. You will also encourage regulars to sit on the far side of the building to allow space closer to the foyer for those who are new or arrive late.

  • No, just let us know what you feel comfortable doing and we will set you up for that.

  • We do our best to not roster people on every week so that the roles are shared around. Let us know what you can do for now and we will start there.
